Day 3 –Square Numbers, Square Roots, Exponents, and Electric Circuits

We had a presentation from a lady named Melissa from the War Amps. We learned a lot about what it is like to have a prosthetic limb and how much you can do when you don’t have a limb.

During math today, students learned how to find square numbers by multiplying doubles, and how to find the square root of a number. Grade 6s realised how important it is to know their multiplication double facts. The class has been asked to memorise the facts from 1 X 1 to 15 x 15. We also learned about exponents in class. Students know how to write them in expanded form or as a power. They also simplified them. Students who did not complete this work in class are asked to p. 11 – 15 & 18 of the MMS 7 Practice and Homework Book.

During our inquiry time, students learned that they can draw electric circuits using symbols. They spent class time reading and recording notes about conducting materials, energy sources, devices, and switches. They used their new learning to draw circuit diagrams in response to problems. Students will be writing a test on electricity concepts on Monday, September 25th.

Grade 6s attended gym and music class today.

Students should be working on their IB Learner Profile poster and be ready to present these on their scheduled date. Krish will be presenting tomorrow.
