Christmas Concert

On December 17, 2019, students from Grade 3 to Grade 8 will put on two performances at the St. Jude’s Academy Dome. Our afternoon performance will begin at 1:00 pm, with doors opening at 12:30. Our evening performance will begin at 6:30 pm, with doors opening at 6:15 pm. Seating is on a first come, first serve basis. Please keep in mind that outside food and drinks are not permitted in the Dome.
For our evening performance, families are welcome to take our shuttle from St. Jude’s to the Dome and back. Shuttles will begin running from 6:00 pm until 7:00 pm. Please meet in the main office.
We encourage all families to come bundled up to stay warm and cozy for the entire show. The students and teachers have put a tremendous amount of work into their performances and kindly ask that all families stay and enjoy the show until the end.

 
We began our day with novel study time. We took up discussion questions about Chapter 25 and the Epilogue a class. Later in the day, students worked on writing their summary of the text and the characters, and events. They also did some research about an explorer who was searching for the fountain of youth – thereby discovering the connection between Tuck Everlasting and our inquiry unit on explorers. Any incomplete work will be completed in class tomorrow. Students who forgot their novels or duo tangs at home are reminded to bring these in tomorrow.

All students presented their PowToons this morning. We had a good discussion on using PowToon as a way of showing one’s learning. For most students, this was their first time using PowToon. We heard about the pros and cons of PowToon from the perspective of students.

All Secret Santa gifts are past due.

Look out for a trip letter and waiver form coming home today.

Students are to arrive at school at 5:15 pm for this evening’s performance of the Christmas concert. Students are to be from picked up from the gym after this evening’s performance.

Finishing Up the PowToons

Students worked on their PowToons during our remaining class time. Narrations are to be done at home over the weekend. Final PowToons are due on Monday, December 16th. Devices are needed as students present their PowToons next week.

Students attended French and math today. In math, students received their unit tests from Ms. Joseph. They went over the test with her. Please review these with your child, sign them, and return them to school on Monday.  For homework students are to complete Page 160 - Q 22 & 23.

We went to the dome for our Christmas concert rehearsal today. We got to stat and watch all performances. This was a treat.

Working on the PowToons

Students continued their research on their chosen indigenous people group throughout the day. I continued meeting with students regarding their note-taking ad research. Students who did not complete their research in class today are to complete it for homework. This work is due tomorrow. Most students are now working on their PowToons. They will have class time tomorrow to finish up this work. Narrations are allowed to be done at home. Final PowToons are due on Monday, December 16th. Devices are needed for the remainder of this week as students continue working on this project.

Students attended French and math today. In math, students began working on their new unit - Data Management. They discussed the terms mean, median and mode. Students practiced a couple of questions to find the mean, median and mode of a set of numbers. Students are reminded to arrange the numbers in order to find the median. They also discussed primary data and secondary data. For homework the are to complete Page 168 - Q 1c and 1d and Page 170 - Q 1 & 2.

We had two Christmas concert rehearsals at the dome today.

Doing the Research


We began our day with novel study time. We took up discussion questions about Chapters 13, 14, & 15 as a class. Students had no time to work on today’s reading and homework. They are to read Chapters 16, 17, & 18 and to complete pages 43- 48 in the guide for homework. This work is due tomorrow.

Students continued their research on their chosen indigenous people group throughout the day. I met with many students as they worked. They showed me the notes they had taken and they either received a green light to proceed or a red light to go back and find more information. A few students have completed all their research and are working on creating their PowToon. Devices are needed for the remainder of this week as students continue working on this project.

In math, students wrote the pre-assessment test for their next unit on Data Management.

We had Christmas concert rehearsal at the dome today.

Canada's First Peoples


Dear SJA Families,

We are very excited for our annual Junior Kindergarten to Grade 2 Christmas Concert. See below for more details.




On December 10, 2019, students from Junior Kindergarten to Grade 2 will put on two performances at the St. Jude’s Dome. Our afternoon performance will begin at 1:00 pm, with doors opening at 12:30. Our evening performance will begin at 6:30 pm, with doors opening at 6:15 pm. Seating is on a first come first serve basis. Students began their day writing their math unit test.

Next, we had novel study time. We took up discussion questions about Chapters 11 & 12 as a class. Students had some time to work on today’s reading and homework. They are to read Chapters 13, 14, & 15 and to pages 39- 43 in the guide. This work is due tomorrow.

Students received the package for one of the major projects for our Where we are in place and time inquiry unit. This project focuses on our first line of inquiry, First Peoples and their interactions with the environment. Students are to complete these project through the lens of change, i.e. How do the ways of life change depending on where people lived? We reviewed the expectations of the project, the steps, and the rubrics. Students then chose a Canadian First Peoples group to research as follows:
