One Week to go Before Exhibition

The day began with all groups receiving an hour of class time to work on their projects. We then began rehearsing for exhibition today. For most groups they had the second run through of their slideshow and second round of feedback on how to improve their work. For some they presented their slideshow for the first time and for others, they have still to complete this for the first time. Once this was done, some students presented their poem or rap for the second round of feedback. Other students presented for the first time, and some are still not ready. During the day, students continued working on various components that are still incomplete. One area that everyone needs to focus on is the table display. They will need trifold boards or other materials as they have decided in their groups to complete this component. They should bring in all materials on Monday if they have not already done this.

Those who presented their slideshow and rap/poem for the second time should begin memorising their lines.

Mme. Stella came to our class to give support to students as they worked on their French component.

We did not have math class today. Math classes will only resume after exhibition is completed. I forgot to mention on yesterday’s blog that Ms. Joseph handed out the integers’ unit test. These tests went home yesterday.  Please take time to review the test with your child, sign it, and return it to Ms. Joseph.

Students are reminded exhibition work must be completed in class and not for homework.

Students should bring in refreshments for exhibition.

Those who would like to participate in the silent dance may still hand in their forms and money by Monday.

Likewise, those who have not returned their immunization forms may still do this on Monday.

First Run-Through

Today was a busy day and also a stressful one in our class. Students continued to work on any exhibition components that they have outstanding. They were also asked to run through their oral component with me as their audience. The groups that did this received feedback on how to improve their work. It was an eye-opener for many groups who quickly realised that they are not ready for tomorrow’s rehearsal. There will be class time for students to keep working tomorrow as others present. By the end of the day, groups were asked to present their rap or spoken word poem. Again they received feedback on how to improve. They will have class time to work on this again tomorrow.

Groups should be moving their focus to their table displays. They will need trifold boards or other materials as they have decided in their groups to complete this component. They should bring in all materials needed.

Mme. Stella and Mr. Oliver came to our class to give support to students. Ms. Joseph came in during math time. Students worked on the pre-assessment task for the next math unit.

Students are reminded exhibition work must be completed in class and not for homework.

Bouldering

We had 30 minutes of class time before we headed out for our bouldering trip. This was a great de-stressor after all the work of exhibition.

Once back in class students wrote their unit test on integers. They then continued with exhibition work as usual. All essays are now complete. Students have been challenged to complete all components by end of day tomorrow in order to begin rehearsing on Friday. Most groups worked on cue cards in the remaining class time. Some worked on their math and creative components. Students may begin bringing in refreshments for exhibition.

Students are reminded exhibition work must be completed in class and not for homework.

Remember to wear summer uniforms tomorrow.

Earth Day

Our day began with an Earth Day Assembly. One of the exhibition groups from Ms. Jaskolka’s class held a house game to teach students about recycling. This is their action component for their exhibition issue ‘Deforestation’. Well done to Kappa, Zeta, and Theta for placing first, second, and third respectively in the recycling game.

Our academic day began with exhibition. I began by conferencing with students who are behind on their work. We worked on the second session of essay edits. I then began the second round of conferences on slideshows for groups that are up-to-date with their work. These groups again received feedback on how to improve their work. These groups got the ‘go ahead’ to write their cue cards.

We discussed the schedule for Exhibition Day, Friday, May 3rd. Students will need to wear full uniform on Thursday, May 2nd for the dress rehearsal and again on Friday, May 3rd. On Friday, students will need to arrive by 8 am to set up. They will present three times on this day, at 9 am, at 12 noon, and again at 6 pm. We discussed refreshments that will be provided by students. Students have signed up for this.

Mr. Oliver supported students as they worked on their art component during their regular music time. Mme. Stella did the same for the French component during regular French time.

Students are reminded exhibition work must be completed in class and not for homework.

In math, Ms. Joseph took up the review sheets that were assigned for homework. The integers’ unit test will be written tomorrow, Wednesday, April 24th, 2019.

Remember to send in the form and money for the Wizard of Oz costumes. These are past due.

We will be bouldering from 9:30 am – 12:30 pm tomorrow. Tomorrow is Casual Day.
