Beginning the Second Draft of the Essay

We still have some IB Portfolios missing today. Please return these as they are long overdue.

Today’s class time was used to work on exhibition. Students who are behind on the first draft of their body paragraphs conferenced with me. They received feedback on how to improve their writing. These students are bringing all three paragraphs home with them tonight. We ask that parents read over the work and provide additional suggestions on how the ideas and content may be improved. Students who are up-to-date with the first draft of essay worked on using the feedback to improve their writing. They wrote the second draft of the essay. Students who made good progress on the writing got to go out for recess. Those who are behind on this work used recess to work on getting caught up. The second draft must be hand written on lined paper and lines must be skipped to allow for feedback and editing marks. The second draft of the essay is due on Thursday, April 11th.

We took time to reflect on the learning that has taken place and the process of exhibition so far. Students made a journal entry where they:

-          described how their understanding of their chosen issue has grown.

-          described some of the challenges and successes they have experienced while researching, writing the essay, working in a group, etc.

-          described how they have demonstrated one of the IB learner profile attributes and attitudes.

-          described an attribute/attitude that they are lacking and explained why they are lacking this attribute/attitude.

Students who completed the second draft of the essay worked on other components such as their interview questions, math component or French component.

During French time, students worked on their exhibition French component. Mme. Stella was available to help students with this component.

Students had math class today. Ms. Joseph used class time to take up the review that was assigned last Friday. Students should study and review concepts to prepare for the unit test. The unit test takes place tomorrow, Tuesday, April 9th. If anyone has further questions, they can see Ms. Joseph at 8:30 am tomorrow morning.

Spring fundraising payments for the trip can still be made.

Remember to send in money for the Wizard of Oz costumes. The flying monkey payment is due this Friday.

Look out for a letter about immunizations coming home today. These are due back by Thursday, April 18th.

Look out for a letter about Oakwood Academy’s silent dance coming home today. These forms and payment (if applicable) are due back by Tuesday, April 23rd.

At the end of the day, Mr. Orr joined our class. This time was used to work on any components the groups felt they needed to work on. It was also an opportunity to talk to Mr. Orr about the possibility of a Phys. Ed. component for their exhibition project. If the class makes good progress on required features this week, they will have gym class on Friday afternoon. I hope this will motivate everyone to work hard until then.
