Arts Night

Day 3

Grade 6s began their day with math. Today’s lesson was a fun one where students conducted probability experiments. They wrote theoretical probabilities for different experiments (coloured counters, spinners, die, etc.) that would be repeated 100 times. They used their theoretical probability to say how many times an event was expected to occur. They then conducted the experiment and compared the results to the theoretical ones. There is no math homework assigned today. The unit test will be written on Monday, June 12th.

Students received their exhibition grades today. They added their work to their IB Portfolios. The portfolios are on display at our art table in the gym.

Students spent a lot of today’s class time working on their summative project. Everyone should remember their devices for tomorrow. Projects will be presented to our class on Friday, and to a younger grade on Monday.

We had our last Arts’ Night dress rehearsal today. Everyone is reminded to bring their costumes (including a blazer and tie) for the performance tonight. Remember to bring an all-black outfit to change into for band. Arts Night takes place 7 pm. Our theme this year is Music through the Eras! You are in for a fantastic night of art, dance, and song! We are asking that students be at the school 6:30 pm to get ready for the evening performance. We will also be selling treats and baked goods, so get ready for what is sure to be a wonderful evening.

Tree Diagrams and Connections

Day 1

Grade 6s began their day with math. We took up Thursday’s homework on probability and percents. Today’s lesson was about using tree diagrams to solve probability problems. We did a number of problems as a class to ensure everyone understood how to complete this work. Students are asked to complete the practice problems on p. 418 – 419 of the MMS textbook.

Students met in their groups to discuss the final chapter of Bridge to Terabithia by Katherine Paterson. Students then began their summative task for their novel study. They are making connections between the book and our UOI. They are identifying 3 characters from the book whose personal, social, relational, or physical health was at risk. They worked to identify the risk, relate it to the Real World Safety Pledge, describe how the character was affected, and what the character could have done to reduce the risk.
