Editing the Essay

It’s a new week but the exhibition essay is still our focus in class. I made it a priority to first meet with groups that are behind in their work. I then began meeting with groups that are up-to-date with their work, i.e. they have received the ‘go-ahead’ to type their essay. These groups were first required to edit their own work and each other’s work. To do this, students used editing proof marks to indicate spelling/capitalization/punctuation, etc. errors. The class received a tutorial on the different editing marks that are traditionally used when editing written work. Once this is done, students require an adult (e.g. a teacher/mentor/parent to edit their work). Edits must be made directly on the print out of the essay. I managed to meet with 5 groups and edited their essays today. These groups need to correct their essays using the editing marks. Once this is done we will print the essays once more and put them through the same editing process to produce the good copy of the essay. The good copy is due on Thursday, April 18th.

Any remaining class time was used by groups for components they are busy working on.

Students are reminded exhibition work must be completed in class and not for homework.

Students had French and math class today. During French time, Mme. Stella met with individual groups to support them with their French component.

In math students continued learning about integers. They added integers using a using a number line as follows:

-          an arrow to the right represents a positive integer

-          an arrow to the left represents a negative integer

-          the sum of opposite integers is zero

-          when I add two positive integers, the sum is always positive

-          when I add two negative integers, the sum is always negative

-          when I add two integers with different signs, the sign of the sum is the sign that matches the greater number

Students practiced questions from the worksheet. For homework they are to complete page 343/344 - Q 1,4,5,9 &10. The tentative date for the unit test is Tuesday, April 23, 2019.

Spring fundraising payments for the trip can still be made.

Remember to send in the form and money for the Wizard of Oz costumes. These are past due.

Remember to return immunization forms by Thursday, April 18th.

Silent dance forms are due back by Tuesday, April 23rd.
