Canada's First Peoples

Dear SJA Families,

We are very excited for our annual Junior Kindergarten to Grade 2 Christmas Concert. See below for more details.

On December 10, 2019, students from Junior Kindergarten to Grade 2 will put on two performances at the St. Jude’s Dome. Our afternoon performance will begin at 1:00 pm, with doors opening at 12:30. Our evening performance will begin at 6:30 pm, with doors opening at 6:15 pm. Seating is on a first come first serve basis. Please keep in mind that outside food and drinks are not permitted in the Dome.

For our evening performance, families are welcome to take our shuttle from St. Jude’s to the Dome and back. Shuttles will begin running from 6:00-7:00 pm.

We encourage all families to come bundled up to stay warm and cozy for the entire show. The students and teachers have put a tremendous amount of work into their performances and kindly ask that all families stay and enjoy the show until the end.

We look forward to seeing you all there!

Students began their day writing their math unit test.

Next, we had novel study time. We took up discussion questions about Chapters 11 & 12 as a class. Students had some time to work on today’s reading and homework. They are to read Chapters 13, 14, & 15 and to pages 39- 43 in the guide. This work is due tomorrow.

Students received the package for one of the major projects for our Where we are in place and time inquiry unit. This project focuses on our first line of inquiry, First Peoples and their interactions with the environment. Students are to complete these project through the lens of change, i.e. How do the ways of life change depending on where people lived? We reviewed the expectations of the project, the steps, and the rubrics. Students then chose a Canadian First Peoples group to research as follows:
