Day 2 – Forms of Energy

We began our second day with a house game that was led and won by Zeta in both the PYP and upper school sections.

Students then met and had their first French lesson with Mme. Carol.

We began work on our first math unit, Whole Numbers. We learned about the relationship between millions and 10s, 100s, 1000s, 10 000s, and 100 000s. We also explored different ways to represent whole numbers using standard form, expanded form, words, numbers and words, and place-value charts. Students did some of the practice work in class. They are asked to complete the remaining work for homework on p. 12 – 15 of their MMS Practice and Homework books.

The class worked in groups to decide on an essential agreement that would create the ideal learning environment for them in our classroom. Groups presented their ideas and then voted on their choices. We hope to have the essential agreement displayed in our classroom by the end of next week.

We began work on our first inquiry unit of the year, Sharing the Planet, where we will explore the topic of electricity. We spent time understanding the theme, central idea, lines of inquiry, and key concepts for this unit. Students also learned what their summative task for this unit will be. Students shared what they already know about electricity. In today’s lesson we explored energy, and different forms of energy.

Students should be working on their IB Learner Profile poster and be ready to present these on their scheduled date.

The class also attended gym with Ms. Carter.
