Day 1 – The First Day of Grade 6

Grade 6s had a busy day. We started the day discussing some of the expectations for the Grade 6 year. This included mindsets, being internationally-minded, following routines, and high standards for behaviour.

The Grade 6s played a house game in class using straws and tissue paper. The game required a lot of cooperation. Well done to Zeta for winning this game.

Students then worked on their math preassessment for our whole numbers unit under the number sense and numeration strand. The goal of this assessment task is to determine what students already understand about whole number concepts and then to see how much they have learned by the end of the unit.

Grade 6s also worked on their Term 1 reading survey and began work on their IB Portfolio cover pages. Those who did not complete this work in class today, will have some time to complete this work tomorrow.

Students have received their first assignment. They will be creating a poster on one of the IB Learner Profile attributes or attitudes. The expectations and rubric that will be used to assess students went home today. Presentations will take place as follows:

Grade 6s got to meet Ms. Carter, our gym teacher. Students will be attending gym each day. We then met as a whole school this afternoon for a house game of musical chairs. Well done to Kappa for winning this game.

Finally at the end of the day, students had music class with Mr. Oliver. Grade 6s will have music class on odd days.

French class begins tomorrow and will take place daily.
