Volume and Capacity

Grade 6s attended Art class with Ms. Kerr and Gym class with Mr. Slyk this morning.

I was supervising the Grade 11 Biology exam and practical today. Ms. Lopez taught the Grade 6 class in my place.

Grade 6s used the time after gym to continue working on our International Day presentation.

After lunch, they took up Friday’s homework on the cubic metre. They then began a new lesson on volume and capacity. They learned that volume measures the space that an object occupies, while capacity measures the amount of liquid or gas an object can hold. Students measured their own lung capacity. Ask your child what their lung capacity is and how the measured it.  Everyone is asked to complete the problems on MMS p. 234 & 235 for homework.

After math was speech time. Students used today’s class time to research information that supports their reason paragraphs and to record the information on the Persuasive Essay Organizer. This work needs to be completed by tomorrow.

During UOI time, students used class time to work on their final art project. Students will have class time tomorrow and Wednesday to complete this project. They will present their projects on Thursday. Students should describe the art form, name an artist that uses this art form, display a sample of the artist’s work, describe the steps needed to complete the piece, and identify the medium and elements of design used in their own work.
