Drafting and Revising

We managed to persuade Ms. Kerr to let us have her art class time to work on our UOI art projects this morning. The Grade 6s were very much appreciative of this much needed time. Their art piece and presentation information was expected to be completed by today.

Grade 6s attended gym class with Mr. Slyk.

We used the time after gym to keep working on art projects. Most students needed first recess time and some needed second recess time too. A couple did not get done and are bringing their art home to finish up.

After lunch, we took up yesterday’s math homework.  Students then began doing review work to prepare for the unit test on Friday. Everyone was expected to complete Q 1 – 6 on p. 242 & 243 of the MMS textbook.  Incomplete work needs to be completed for homework.

After math was speech time. We used the same steps as yesterday to write the first draft of reason # 2 paragraph. Students did this in one sitting before heading out for recess. I continued conferencing with students, beginning with those who I did not get to tomorrow. Those are now caught up and I conferenced with almost everybody about paragraph # 2.  After lunch, students read their paragraph to a friend and a teacher. The goal was to discover if they were persuasive and to receive feedback on how to improve their paragraph. They will repeat this step at home. They will use the advice they received to write a revised draft of this paragraph. We also paid attention to how long paragraphs were to ensure we would be between the 3 – 5 minute time limits for the speech. We are currently aiming for paragraphs that take about 50 s to read at a comfortable speaking pace. Revised draft of reason #2 paragraph is due tomorrow. Please note that the paragraph must be completely rewritten, not edited.
