24-Hour Clock

Grade 6s attended Art class with Ms. Kerr and Gym class with Mr. Slyk this morning.

After gym, we continued discussing ideas for International Day which is coming up later this month. We eliminated some ideas we came up with yesterday and came up with new ones. Each student has signed up to work on at least one part of the presentation. Everyone has something to work on or research today. Students will share their work with each other tomorrow.

In math time, we took up yesterday’s homework, with special attention to question 5. We then completed a new lesson on the 12–hour and 24-hour clock. We took time to practice converting 12-hour time to 24-hour time. We practiced finding elapsed time too. Grade 6s had some time to work on practice problems in class. For homework, students should complete practice questions on p. 211 - 212 of the MMS textbook.

Next up was writing time. Students worked on completing the expository paragraph that they began working on yesterday. I met with students to read their work, discuss whether they met the criteria for this assignment, and make suggestions for improvement.

During UOI time, Grade 6s were challenged to finish tracing and outlining their tessellations in black marker. Anybody that did not get to this step in class will need to complete this for homework. They now have the freedom to be creative with their tessellations in the colours they choose.
