Real-World Safety Pledge

Day 6 & 7

My apologies for not posting a blog yesterday.

Yesterday, the class worked on correcting all their math review. Today they wrote the unit test on Perimeter, Area, and Volume. Tomorrow we begin the final math unit of the year.

Yesterday and today, students met in their groups to discuss chapter 9 & 10 of Bridge to Terabithia by Katherine Paterson. Once discussions were complete, students had lots of class time to reading chapter 11 and work on the discussion questions.  Any incomplete work is due tomorrow (Wednesday).

During yesterday’s UOI time, students learned about the real-world safety pledge. They all agreed that the pledge gave good advice on ways to keep yourself safe. Everyone signed the pledge to show they will use common sense and listen to their gut to keep themselves safe. Students were asked to show and discuss the pledge with their families yesterday. Students then watched a video called Amy’s Choice, a true story about a girl who ran away from home with a stranger she met online in a private chat room. As a class, we discussed all the ways that Amy did not follow the safety pledge and put herself in danger. In today’s class we discussed different dangerous scenarios and which part of the safety pledge would keep students safe.

We are making progress on our Arts’ Night performance. Today we discussed costumes. Please talk to your child about their costume. We will need these on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday next week.

The Grade 6s attended French and gym class today. Music class takes place tomorrow. Everyone is reminded to bring in their musical instruments.

A number of students are returning their tree top trekking forms as there are parts that need to be completed. Please return these as soon as possible. Permission and waiver forms for Tree Top Trekking trip are past due.

Our annual Art's Night is only one week away!! Please join us on Wednesday, June 7 at 7:00 PM. You may also join us at our dress rehearsal which begins at 1:00 PM. Our theme this year is Music through the Eras! You are in for a fantastic night of art, dance, and song! We are asking that students be at the school 6:30 pm to get ready. We will also be selling treats and baked goods, so get ready for what is sure to be a wonderful evening.

Three of our class members received principled awards from the Grade 6 class, for gym, and French.

Enjoy some pictures from our TFC trip on Friday.
