Cyberbullying

Day 2

We had a full day today. We began our work with math, where we continued our measurement unit. Students learned that they need to find the sum of the individual areas of the two triangle faces and 3 rectangle/square faces to determine the total surface area of a triangular prism. Students are asked to complete the practice work on pages 367 – 369 of the MMS textbook. For questions 2 & 4 students need only do parts a), c), and e). The math unit test will be written on Tuesday, May 30^th if all goes according to plan.

During today’s inquiry into our digital footprint, we discussed cyberbullying. Students reflected on what cyberbullying is, their experiences, and what can be done in reaction to cyberbullying. They completed a true and false quiz as a way of showing their understanding and discussed their responses with the class. Students viewed an interactive comic called Stand By or Stand Up? Students discussed the choices and consequences of the main character in this comic.  Students are reminded to work on their first project with a parent to find a story of a child, teen, or adult that was suspended, expelled, fired, etc. as a result of something they posted to the Internet or social media. Students have a page of responses to complete. This work is due tomorrow.

We continued working on our novel study today. Students met in their groups to discuss chapter 5 of Bridge to Terabithia by Katherine Paterson. Once discussions were complete, students had some class time to begin reading chapter 6 and working the on the discussion questions.  Any incomplete work is due tomorrow (Wednesday).

 The Grade 6s attended French, music, and gym class today.

Students that are going to the track and field meet at the Maples on Friday, May 26^th, are reminded to hand in their permissions forms.

 Permission and waiver forms about our Tree Top Trekking trip are due this Friday, May 26^th.

The ordering system for June lunch is up and open. Lunch payment is due by May 23rd 4:00 pm.

Clothing iron-on name labels are now available through Alpa.
