The Particle Theory of Matter

Today’s inquiry time was used to continue taking up last week’s investigations and worksheets. We reviewed all assigned reading and ensured everyone understands concepts read. We did one more investigations with a ping pong ball that demonstrated that air expands when heated. Students then learned about the particle theory of matter. Understanding this theory was made easy by all our investigations and students quickly understood this theory. Students completed a worksheet and additional reading about the particle theory. The due date for the ‘Properties of Air’ mind map has been postponed to tomorrow, Tuesday, October 29th. Students are reminded to use the mind map as a study tool. The properties of air test takes place tomorrow, Tuesday, October 29th.

Students began writing their The City of Ember book report. They will have two more periods of language time to complete their report.

First recess was used for car building.

Grade 6s attended French and math class today. In math, Ms. Joseph introduced students to polyhedra. A polyhedron is a solid with flat polygonal faces. Students built a rectangular pyramid and a triangular prism using nets. They discussed the number and type of faces, vertices and edges. Students will continue building more polyhedra using nets in the next math class. Reminder - Students should submit the math test signed by a parent.
