Hotter Air

Students received their properties of air test today. We took time to take-up and discuss what were accepted as corrected answers and the marking scheme for each question. Please take time to review the test with your child, sign it, and return it tomorrow.

Due to many specialist classes today, Language time and book report writing has been postponed to tomorrow.

First recess was used for car building.

We continued our discussion of density, buoyancy, sinking, and floating today. We completed our density towers and conducted two experiments where we heated air to cause a coil to spin and a bag to float. We have started to learn about aerodynamics too. Students conducted more investigations to determine what happens when they blow across a paper strip, or blow under a tent card or table card. The results puzzled the class. For each experiment, they tried to explain their results using their current knowledge of air’s properties. They shared their ideas with the class. We will continue this investigation tomorrow and students will finally learn the science behind their observations.  Students will be writing a test on Bernoulli’s principle on Monday, November 4th.

Grade 6s attended French, music, gym, and math class today.

November Lunches – Do not order for November 21st as we will be on a field trip this day.

The lunch site is now open. It will close Wednesday, October 30th at 3:00pm.

Special of the month: Chicken Stir Fry which is available every Friday

All payments are to be made through QuickBooks by November 6th.

Our collection of ‘Lost and Found’ items is piling up. Please make some time to come into the school building and a look through the lost and found items. These are now located in the GYM. On November 8th at 4pm all left over items will be donated to the local Salvation Army.

Tomorrow is Harvest/Halloween Spirit Day. Students may come to school dressed in their costumes or in fall colours. No weapons, scary masks or face paint please.

Please send in newspapers if you have any. We need these for a Papier-mâché project we will be working on during this unit.

Curling permission forms and waivers are due on Friday, November 1st.

A number of students have not completed their Polar Expression entry forms. These are past due. Please submit these ASAP.

A number of parents have expressed an interest in attending the trip to the Canadian Warplane museum. We already have enough parent volunteers, but I understand the increased interest as it is a lovely place to visit. Parents who would like, may attend if they are willing to pay the entry fee once we arrive at the museum. You are still required to have a vulnerable sector check on file in order to travel and be with students while on the trip. I believe there will be sufficient space on the bus for parents to travel with us. Let me know if this is something you would like to do.
