Solving Algebraic Equations

 

We began our day with math. Students reviewed equations but added an algebraic expression to the equation. Students represented equations in words and solved the equations. We discussed two ways to solve equations, the first was by systematic trial and the second was by inspection. The whole class agreed that they prefer solving equations by inspection. Most students completed the practice work on pages 216 – 219 of the MMS 7 book in class. As a result of completing more work in class than expected today, the unit test for Patterning and Algebra will be written on Wednesday, May 30^th.

Next up was novel discussion time where we discussed Chapter 9 of Bridge to Terabithia as a class. Students shared how Leslie and Jess are alike and how they are different. The class was assigned to read Chapter 10 and answer the questions relating to Chapter 10. This is due on Monday when we will have our next discussion time.

We continued work on our Digital Footprint inquiry unit. Students worked on completing their persuasive letter. They were then introduced to the summative task for this unit. Ask your child to tell you about this task. They have been given a lot of freedom as it is the final task. They had the choice of group partners, issues, a teacher/grade to present their project to, as well as a project type. Students will need devices next week as they will begin work on their summative task for this unit.

We had another a quick Arts’ Night performance practice in the auditorium today. Students will come to school dressed in their Arts’ Night costumes on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday of next week. Our performance will take place on Wednesday, May 30^th at 1:30 pm and 7 pm at the City Church.

Grade 6s attended gym and French class today.
