Friend or Fake

 

We began our day with math. Students examined patterns, described patterns, continued the pattern, and found a particular term in the pattern (e.g. the 50^th or 99^th term). Today’s lesson was very long and there was not much time for practice work. Students are asked to complete practice work on p. 202 – 205 on the MMS 7 book. Integers tests are coming home today. Please take time to review this test with your child, sign it, and return it to school on Tuesday.

Next up was novel discussion time where we discussed Chapter 5 of Bridge to Terabithia as a class. Students also shared examples of what they thought tweets between Janice and Wilma might sound like. The class was assigned to read Chapter 6 and answer the questions relating to Chapter 6. This is due on Tuesday when we will have our next discussion time.

We continued work on our Digital Footprint inquiry unit. Today we discussed the tactics that online predators may use. Students raised a red flag (literally) to show when they thought a scenario was dangerous. They watched a video called Friend or Fake? and reflected on some of the instances that should have been warning signs to the main character, Keyan. Students then generated statements that a friend might say, and statements that a fake might say. Students are reminded to keep working on their ‘Two Kinds of Stupid’ project. This is due on Tuesday, May 22. Students will need parent supervision and support to find their internet article for this project. Students will search the internet with a parent for other stories about teens and adults losing opportunities because of content posted online. Students will be sharing the story they find with the class next week.

We ended the day working on our Arts’ Night performance. We practiced all of our skits today. Dancers continued to work on their routines. Students are to begin thinking of their costumes for this performance. Our performance will take place on Wednesday, May 30^th at 1:30 pm and 7 pm.

Grade 6s attended gym class today.
