Day 4 – Scatter Plots

In math we continued our data management unit. Today students collected data from each other on their arm span and shoe length. We recorded the data into a class t-chart. We used the data to create a scatter plot. We looked at the scatter plot and inferred that it has an upward trend where shoe length increases as arm span increases. We also looked at scatter plots that show a downward trend or no trend. One of today’s challenges was describing the trend in a way that made sense using the appropriate vocabulary. Everyone has conferenced with me and completed and corrected today’s work. Through the day I tried to get caught up with marking previous math work. Students are asked to correct and/or complete any previous work on pages 68 – 77 for homework.

After math students worked on their science fair project. Students who have completed the testing and building phase got to go out for first recess. This project will be prioritised this week as the science fair takes place next week, Thursday, November 30. Judging will be completed by 2:30 pm. At this time we welcome families to visit the school and see all the science fair projects from students in JK to Grade 8.

During our first session of UOI time, students were challenged to complete half the organiser describing their country’s PEPS features. The second session of UOI time had the same challenge – to complete the second half of the organiser. Before students began we discussed how to phrase key search terms, how to select a site, and how to be critical when determining if a source is reliable. At the end of the second session we had a quick tutorial on how to use Microsoft Word/Publisher and Google Docs to create a trifold brochure. We will be working on these tomorrow. Students should practice using these templates to increase their comfort levels before tomorrow’s class time. Students are reminded to have devices in class tomorrow.

Students attended French and gym class today.

Scholastic orders are due on Friday.
