The Votes are In: Madagascar!!!

Orange Shirt Day

Mr. Khan was a guest speaker during inquiry time today. He spoke to the class about electricity generation in general and nuclear energy in particular. He shared information of his experience as a mechanical engineer working at a nuclear station. He explained how electricity is produced from nuclear fission. He focused his explanation on a high pressure reactor. His explanation included details about uranium isotopes, neutrons fired at the uranium atoms, neutron absorption, radioactivity, the production of super steam, and more. Students had the opportunity to ask questions. Mr. Khan said that students asked good questions. Thank you for your time, Mr. Khan.

Next we had science fair time. Today, students recorded their preconstruction sketch and labeled their sketch using the relevant vocabulary. They also listed all materials needed. Students should ensure they have all materials needed as we begin building tomorrow.

We had novel study time today. Students met in groups to discuss Chapter 6 of The City of Ember. Students had some time to complete today’s reading in class. Their response should be completed for homework if they did not get done in class. Our next discussion takes place tomorrow.

Students attended French, gym, and math classes today. In math, Ms. Joseph took up the math review work with students.  The math unit test will be written tomorrow, Tuesday, October 1st.

Our class is responsible for the bake sale taking place tomorrow and Wednesday.  Students are asked to contribute bake sale items. These MUST be PEANUT and NUT FREE. Thank you.

Devices are needed for tomorrow’s inquiry time. Students will be researching.

International Day takes place in a few weeks. Our class has chosen to represent Madagascar.

I shared my study suggestions with students. When studying I …

·         Read through all notes at least 3 times (mostly out loud)

·         Test myself - Make lists/summaries/draw diagrams of all I can remember without looking at my notes

·         Check to see what I have forgotten/omitted/can’t remember – Reread/ go over these sections again

·         Explain difficult concepts to someone (family members, pets, teddy bear)

·         Ask a family member to quiz you
