Series and Parallel Circuits

We started our day working on our inquiry unit. We took up work from previous worksheets such as Light-Up the Class, Energy Transformations, and Conductors and Insulators. Students then had another opportunity for hands-on learning as they built series and parallel circuits. Students are reminded to keep adding new information to their Energy Mind Maps.

To be ready for today’s novel study task, students needed prior knowledge of the differences between phrases and sentences and in order to understand this difference, they needed prior knowledge of subjects and predicates. This made for a hefty language lesson. Ask your child to explain what they learned.

We took up yesterday’s novel study scavenger hunt. Students participated in a rendering activity of the prologue to The City of Ember called The Instructions. After reading this section of the text, students selected what they thought was the most important sentence, phrase, and word. They shared their ideas with their groups and the class.

Students attended French and math classes today. In math, students took up their homework on factors and prime numbers. Ms. Joseph introduced the Greatest Common Factor (GCF) and Lowest Common Multiple (LCM). They discussed different methods to find the GCF and LCM. They were introduced the ladder method to find LCM and GCF with the help of a video:

As a class they discussed a couple of questions from the textbook. For homework, students are to complete Page 17, Questions 5, 6, 8 & 9.

Fall Fundraising payments are due tomorrow (Wednesday). Golf trip forms are due this Friday.
