Day 4 – The Four Forces of Flight

Today’s math concept was trickier than usual. Students estimated to find the percent of an amount. We did this in two ways. First, students rounded and converted the percent to a fraction then multiplied the fraction by the amount. In the second method, students converted the percent to a decimal and then multiplied the decimal by the amount. Students who did not complete this work in class are asked to complete pages 165 – 167 of the MMS 7 practice book for homework. Students will be writing a unit test on fractions and percents on Tuesday, March 6th.

During our Flight inquiry time, students watched a couple of videos that described the four forces of flight. They took notes as they watched these videos.

After this, students participated in reading activity about the forces of flight. Students who did not complete this in class are asked to complete the task as homework.

Finally, at the end of the day we began addressing our final line of inquiry and key concept for this unit. Students are researching a topic that is related to our responsibility with respect to flying devices, safety, society, and the environment. Students used today’s class time compose questions about their topics, research their topics, and record their information in an organizer. Devices are needed tomorrow.
