Day 6 – Surface Area of Rectangular Prisms

Today Ms. Russel worked with the Grade 6s in all subject areas.

Grade 6s learned how to calculate the surface area of a rectangular prism. They did this clearly showing all calculations, and steps including units. Students who did not complete this in class are asked to complete p. 87 – 88 of the MMS 6 practice book for homework.

In today’s novel study on Tuck Everlasting, we discussed Chapters 7 & 8 as a class. Students have been assigned to complete Chapters 9 & 10 and the responses on p. 32 – 36. This work is due tomorrow.

For our inquiry unit, Where we are in place and time, students began work on one of their main tasks for this unit. They will be exploring our first line of inquiry ‘First Peoples and their interaction with the environment’ through the lens of causation. As the work on this project they should ask ‘Why is it like it is?’ when they consider the interactions of their chosen people group with the environment.  Students have chosen people groups around Canada to explore. They will be working on this project independently. Students received a package that will guide them through this project. Today they worked on recording their research in jot note form in their graphic organiser. Students will have two more school days to complete their research. They will need their devices all week. On Thursday they will need access to their own POWTOON account.

Also as part of our inquiry unit, students began working on their Haida art project. They sketched their artwork in pencil.

Students are reminded to bring in their Crawford Lake trip form by Wednesday.

We spent some time preparing for our Christmas concert performance.

Grade 6s attended French class today.
