Trading and the Crusdaes

We started work on a new math unit today - Transformational Geometry. We reviewed translations, reflections, and rotations as well as examples of these transformations. Students participated in a transformation game with their partner. Unfortunately the review and game took up most of our math class time and students did not get to start the practice questions. They are asked to complete the questions on page 250 & 251 of the MMS textbook. They are bringing home coordinate grid paper to be used with some of the questions.

We then worked on our explorers inquiry unit. Today students began learning about the Age of Exploration. We focused on major trading centres and trade routes in Europe and Asia, the Crusades, and the Ottoman Empire. We related the cities we discussed today to the countries that they are found in today. This meant that students did a fair amount of map work. Grade 6s are reminded to study for Thursday's test on Explorers.

We had literature circle discussions today. Students met in groups to discuss chapter 5 of  Copper Sunrise. They had class time to read chapter 6 and complete their reflection role for chapter 6.

During language time, I met with students to review the progress they have made on their speeches. Each student has received individual instructions on what to work on next. Please talk to your child about next steps for their speeches.

Students attended French and Gym class today.
