Rotational Symmetry

Friday began with a convocation. Congratulations to Victoria for being voted by her peers as a great example of an open-minded student.

Congratulations also to Zachary for being selected to represent SJA at Monday's (March 2) speech competition against the Maples. The Grade 6 class then headed out to visit Sunnybrook School's Exhibition. Grade 6 students from SJA got to be an audience and then had the opportunity to talk to Sunnybrook students about their projects.

When we got back to class, students had lunch. We managed to squeeze in a math lesson about rotational symmetry. Students used tracing paper to make an image of  figures provided to check the order of rotational symmetry and lines of symmetry. They discovered something very interesting about regular polygons in the practice work. Students again made excellent progress on the practice work. Those who did not get done in class are asked to complete the questions on p. 272 & 273 for homework. Remember we will be ending this unit with a test on Friday, March 6.

Grade 6s used second lunch and recess time to meet in literature circle groups to discuss chapter 12 & 13 of Copper Sunrise. They had time to read chapter 14 & 15 and complete their reflections of chapter 14 & 15.

Grade 6s attended French and Gym class today.

We did not have time to work on our explorer projects today. Students are reminded to create an account at www.weebly.com and to become familiar with how to use this site. Students should also have their devices at school all next week (except Wednesday) to build their website. Students are reminded about the explorers test which will take place on Monday, March 2.
