Speech Competition

Today in math, we worked on lines of symmetry. Students used Miras and folding paper to check for lines of symmetry in figures. They identified the number of lines of symmetry and the kinds of lines (vertical, horizontal, diagonal) in a figure. They also used grid paper and dot paper to create figures that have a specified number of symmetry lines. e made good progress with practice questions today. Students are asked to finish up the questions on p. 269 for homework. We will de ending this unit with a test on Friday, March 6.

During inquiry time, students used informational sources to read up  and take notes about their chosen explorer. They were reminded to make notes in point form and to have between 3-5 words for each point to avoid plagiarism. Students were also asked to organise the information they are collecting according to the checklist they have been given. Remember to bring a device to school tomorrow and all of next week. Students are reminded about the explorers test which will take place on Monday, March 2. Students are asked to sign up for a website account at www.weebly.com. This there is no cost to do this. Students should practice signing in and out of their account to ensure they can access their account at school.

Grade 6s then met in literature circle groups to discuss chapter 10 & 11 of Copper Sunrise. They had class time to read chapter 12 & 13 and complete their reflections of chapter 12 & 13.

In the afternoon, students attended the speech competition. Well done to our Grade finalists for their performance today:
