New Technology in the Age of Exploration

We used today's math time to review Monday's unit test on measurement. Students overall did not perform as well as they usually do on this test. For this reason, we went over every question on the test and addressed student questions. Grade 6s are bringing home the test as well as all the corrections to the test today. The entire class will be writing a retest tomorrow.

We then worked on our explorers inquiry unit. Today students began learning about new ideas that allowed for the Age of Exploration to be what it was. We did not get through this lesson today, and will continue next week. Please ask your child about some of the inventions that allowed for successful exploration. Students are reminded to study for their Vikings test which takes place tomorrow.

We had literature circle discussions today. Students met in groups to discuss chapter 6 of  Copper Sunrise. They had class time to read chapter 7 and complete their reflection role for chapter 7.

During language time, I met with students to review the progress they have made on their speeches. Each student was instructed to complete all paragraphs of their speech including the conclusion. Students who did not accomplish this in the class time given were kept out of French and gym class to get done. Most students completed  all paragraphs by the end of the extra time taken. Each student has received individual instructions on what to work on next. Please talk to your child about next steps for their speeches.

Some students attended French and Gym class today.
