Forms of Energy

We had a busy inquiry time today. First of all we discussed this year’s science fair project. All Grade 6 students will be building an electric car. We discussed the expectations for this project and students had the opportunity to ask questions. They then set about describing the task in their own words. They are bringing their Engineering Design Portfolio home today. Please take time to read and sign the letter in the front of the Duo-tang. Duo-tangs need to be returned to school tomorrow. Students also need to bring in $15 for their supplies and a shoe box to store their cars.

Next we conducted an inquiry into forms of energy. Students first learned about tips and the importance of note-taking. They then watched a video about forms of energy and practiced their note-taking skills. The video was followed by a quiz that tested their understanding of the various forms of energy, their definitions, and examples. Students then completed a worksheet about energy forms using a word bank.

In language we began working on understanding idioms. Ask your child to tell you what an idiom is, specifically what is meant by a ‘hot potato’.

Grade 6s attended math, gym, and French class today. Mme. Stella has assigned French homework on accents.

In Math, Grade 6s worked on mean, median, mode and range. Ms. Joseph has assigned math homework out of the MMS 7 textbook.

Grade 6s should be working on their learner profile posters for homework using the criteria we decided on yesterday:
