Electrical Safety

For yesterday’s and today’s novel study time, students participated in literature circle discussions using their assigned roles. I will sit with a different group each day and evaluate students based on their contributions to the group discussions. Yesterday, students were assigned Chapter 2, and today they have been assigned Chapter 3 of The City of Ember. A number of students completed both the reading and responses during class time. Extra time was used to work on our Iceland research. Any work that did not get completed in class needs to be completed for homework. Novels and Duo-tangs need to be brought to school daily as we will be having novel study time daily.

Yesterday, students watched videos and took notes about electrical safety hazards in and around the home and how these can be avoided. Yesterday, the class generated criteria for an effective electrical safety poster. Their ideas were used to compile a checklist that each student used in today’s class as the designed their poster.

Many students had extra class time to work on their Iceland research today. Everyone is asked to research and prepare a traditional Icelandic dish that is peanut and nut free to serve to guests at this event. Students are asked to bring their devices to class daily as we research about Iceland.

Grade 6s attended music, math, and French class today. In math students reviewed line graphs with Ms. Joseph. They created line graphs on Google Sheets and on paper. In addition they completed bar and line graphs that showed temperature variation over time. For homework, they should complete the worksheet that Ms. Joseph assigned.

Next week, our class is responsible for hosting the monthly bake sale that takes place at St. Jude’s. This sale will take place on Tuesday and Wednesday. Each students in our class is asked to contribute baked or bought items to sell. All items must be nut and peanut free.

Golfing trip forms need to be returned by Monday, September 24th.

Remember to hand in funds raised for the Terry Fox Foundation on a daily basis.

It was wonderful seeing families at the BBQ yesterday.

Look out for letters about after-school programs (such as karate, piano, dance, and yoga) coming home today.

Have a lovely weekend, everyone.
