Surface Area

Day 10

Grade 6s attended French and gym class early in the day today. Later they had band with Mr. Oliver for music class.

Once in our class we worked on math. We took up yesterday’s strategy lesson. We then did a new lesson where students learned how to calculate the surface area of a rectangular prism. Students learned that they will have to do many calculations that take up a lot of pages for this work. They have been warned to anticipate the longest session of Grade 6 math homework tonight. Sorry, Grade 6s. Students did begin working on problems in class and they seem to have a good grasp of how to do them. Students should complete practice problems on p. 222 - 223 of the MMS textbook.

At the end of the day, we finalised all our work for International Day which takes place tomorrow. The class is looking forward to seeing visitors, sharing their work, and visiting other class’ presentations. Students are reminded to have all materials (or food) at school tomorrow. Remember that there will be no Kiss and Ride tomorrow.

The remainder of class time was used to work on the flight project. Students will need devices at school again tomorrow as once data is collected in charts, students will use Excel or Google Sheets to create graph to represent their data.

Look out for letters coming home with some students today.
