Flight, Society, and the Environment

Day 5

Grade 6s began their day attending French class with Mme. Stella.

Once back in our room we had math time. We took up yesterday’s problems on time zones. We then began learning more about the 24-hour clock. We practiced strategies to solve problems involving a 12-hour clock and a 24-hour clock. Students are asked to complete practice work on p. 211 -212 of the MMS textbook.

After recess, the class attended gym class with Mr. O.

It was then time to work on International Day. Students worked in their groups to learn more about Spain. Today, students used class time for researching and note-taking. Toward the end of class, groups were sked to consider the information they had discovered and come up with an idea on how they will present their learning.

We ended the day with our flight unit. We continued exploring our last line of inquiry for this unit: societal and environmental impacts of flying devices that make use of the properties of air. Students already had already chosen their topics yesterday. Today we clarified the expectations for this project. Students were required to generate 3 questions about their topic and discover the answers to their questions. They had to include an answer to our key concept: What is our responsibility. Students used today’s class time to research. They were challenged to complete all their research today. Tomorrow’s class time will be used to prepare the presentations. Students should bring any materials they think they may need. We do have poster boards at school for those that need them.

One of the students in our class is missing a blazer. Please check at home in case you took it by mistake.
