Thousandths & Personification

Day 9

We began the day with math. We took up yesterday’s homework and then worked on today’s lesson which was understanding thousandths. This took a bit of a mind shift as we used the cube in Base Ten blocks to represent one whole. Students previously used it to represent 1000 whole units. The flat now represents 1 tenth, the rod represents 1 hundredth, and the unit now represents 1 thousandth. We wrote numbers in fraction and decimal form and also represented them on thousandths grids.  Students are asked to complete the following practice questions on p. 119 - 120 of the MMS textbook - Q. 1 – 4, 6, and 8.

We had language time today. We reviewed similes and learned about personification. Students discovered that writing sentences that show personification is more challenging than similes. Those who did not get done in class are asked to complete or correct their sentences at home.

Students began UOI time by writing a test to show their knowledge and understanding of concepts we have learned so far in this unit.

Students continued their research of Canada’s exports during UOI time. A couple of groups have completed their research and are ready to move onto their storyboards tomorrow. Everyone is reminded that devices are needed every day this week and that they need a YouTube account to upload the video once it is done.

Grade 6s attended French class today.

We had novel study time. Students discussed chapter 4 in their literature circle groups. Everyone was assigned a new role and received some class time to begin reading chapter 5. We will have novel study time again tomorrow. Everyone should complete their chapter 5 reading and response for homework if they did not get done in class.

ArtReach forms are due tomorrow, not Friday (that was my mistake – sorry).
