Decimals

Day 8

We began the day with new math unit – Decimals. Today’s lesson was about big numbers in the media. Students practiced writing big numbers as decimals, fractions, and in standard form. We also practiced rounding to the tenth’s place. Students are asked to complete practice questions on p. 116 of the MMS textbook.

Students continued their research of Canada’s exports during UOI time. At the end of yesterday’s lesson we learned how to use keywords when searching. This was useful today, although many students still experienced much frustration when trying to locate information they need.  Everyone is reminded that devices are needed every day this week and that they need a YouTube account to upload the video once it is done.

The class went to music and French today.

We had novel study time. Students discussed chapter 3 in their literature circle groups. Everyone was assigned a new role and received some class time to begin reading chapter 4. We will have novel study time again tomorrow. Everyone should complete their chapter 4 reading and response for homework if they did not get done in class. Remember that the UOI test is tomorrow.

We had some language time, where we reviewed and wrote similes. We also looked at the structure of an action poem. Students had a few minutes to write down a quick draft of an action poem.

Look out for Remember Remember poem coming home today.
