Symmetry

We welcomed Mr. Andrei to SJA today. He will be teaching music to the Grade 6 class. Our daily schedule has changed for the remainder of this term.

We began our day with math. We took up Thursday’s homework on similar figures and did a new lesson on symmetry. Students created designs using Pattern Blocks that had a particular number of lines of symmetry. Students had some class time to work on practice problems on p. 269 of the MMS textbook. Incomplete work should be completed for homework.

Grade 6s then had their first music class with Mr. Andrei.

After recess, we had speech time. Students had first go at editing their speeches. They then asked a friend to peer-edit for them. I managed to edit 4 speeches during this time. We will continue editing tomorrow.

Students then had gym class with Mr. Slyk.

We used second recess as a time to go over questions 1 and 5 on the measurement test. Retests will take place tomorrow.

Students began researching for their project on Canada’s Exports. They received a package that describes the expectations for this project. We took a bit of time to review expectations and collaboration skills that students are to demonstrate. Students then had class time to work on researching their topic. They were expected to complete 1/3 of the research by the end of class time. They will need devices for the remainder of the week as they work on this project. Groups and topics for the project are as follows:

Adam & Dev – Crude oil

Audrey & Bhavya – precious stones

Zain & Abel – lumber

Gurjas & Alika – Maple syrup

Rachel & Bhoovi – precious metals

Ibrahim & Aly – aluminum
