Patterns in Geometry

Our week began with math. We carefully took up last week’s homework on Input/Output Machines. We then continued this unit by examining patterns in geometry. Students were given large copies of figures with 3 to 6 sides. They drew diagonals in all figures. They created a chart that reflected the relationship between the number of sides and the number of diagonals. Students wrote pattern rules that reflected this relationship. We examined prisms, and looked for relationships between the number of sides of the base, the number of faces, the number of vertices, and the number of edges. As students work through today’s practice problems, they should refer to the samples on p. 389 to help them phrase their rules. Please complete problems on p. 390 – 391 for homework.

Students attended Music class with Mr. Andrei and Gym class with Mr. Slyk.

During novel study time, we began by taking up discussion questions about chapters 4 and 5. Students then worked independently to read chapters 6 and 7. Students should complete study guide pages 26 – 30.

Students used today’s UOI time to finish up their brochures. Brochures are due on Thursday.
We received a letter from the Polar Expressions Story Writing Competition letting us know that 11 of our Grade 6s have made it to the next round of the competition. Well done everyone!
