Representing Thinking

On Tuesday evening, I was worried about the ski conditions for yesterday’s trip. I am sure you have heard from your child that the slopes were icy but we had the place to ourselves. On top of that the warm weather and sunny afternoon made for an awesome day on the slopes.

We began our day with a bullying survey. We will discuss the results of the survey soon.

We then took up Tuesday’s math homework on rotational symmetry. Today’s math lesson was a strategy lesson about representing your thinking. Students worked on solving a tricky word problem. They were encouraged to show their thinking in detail. Once everyone was done, students had a walkabout the room, to see how other students solved the problem and how they showed their thinking. Today’s challenge was for students to solve word problems using two different strategies, and to represent how they did this in detail. Most students even completed all work in class. Students who did not get done are asked to complete practice problems on p. 275 of the MMS textbook as homework.

It was then UOI time. Students got straight into their groups and continued researching and note-taking information for their presentations on Canada’s exports. They were expected to complete all research by the end of class time today. They will need devices tomorrow to work on their presentation.

As students conducted their UOI research, I met with students to conference about and edit speeches. We are almost done with speech edits. Begin memorising your speech if you have completed your good copy.

Students then had gym class with Mr. Slyk.

Grade 6s ended the day attending French class with Mme. Villeneuve.

Look out for March hot lunch order forms coming home today.
