Air expands and Contracts

Today’s blog looks almost the same as yesterday’s as we followed the same pattern of work and continued work on the same concepts.
We started our day working on our flight inquiry. We discussed yesterday’s investigations into the properties of air. Students checked their work. We discussed what could be inferred or concluded about air’s properties from each investigation. Students continued creating a mind map to represent their learning from these investigations. They will add to the mind map daily. The class then worked on further investigations involving air. Today’s investigation involved placing air in hot and cold water, as well as heating air up with candles. Ask your child to tell you about these investigations. We will take up these investigations tomorrow. Students also read about the properties of air. Students are asked to add all new information to their mind map if they did not get done in class. Grade 6s will be writing a test on the properties of air on Tuesday, October 30th.

Next we worked on language. Students continued their inquiry into what makes a narrative a fable or a legend. They read two more samples of narrative writing and added to their list of what made the samples effective. Students will be using this list to improve their own writing.
Grade 6s continued writing their book report on The City of Ember. Some students have still not completed this task. Students that have completed their book report worked on their electric cars. Some students worked on their art or their art reflections.

Grade 6s attended music, French, and math class today. In math, students did number patterns and practiced questions from the textbook. For homework students are to complete the worksheet.
Students are reminded to pay for the warplane trip and return forms by tomorrow.
Look out for a curling trip form coming home today. These forms are due on Friday, November 2nd.
