Day 2 – 8 School Days until Exhibition

We continued learning about integers in math today. Students used tiles to model addition of integers and to find the sum when adding integers. Students completed practice integer work on pages 187 – 188 in their MMS 7 books. Students are bringing home their area and perimeter math tests today. Please take time to review this with your child, sign the test, and return the test to school.

We continued working on exhibition for the remainder of the day. We met as a class to discuss important deadlines for this week, the tentative schedule for exhibition day, refreshments, and the ‘Items Needed’ list.

Important deadlines are:

End of day Tuesday – complete action, French, math, and BLS components

End of day Thursday – complete first draft of slideshow & oral presentation

End of day Friday – complete at least one run-through of oral presentation, essay good copy is due

Our tentative schedule for Exhibition Day, Friday, May 4th is as follows:

Arrive early to set up (more details to follow).

9:00 am – 9:30 am Introduction

9:30 am – 10:30 am Break Out Sessions

10:30 am – 11:00 am Walkabout and see the display tables

We have discussed students staying at school, contributing $ for food to pay for takeout, eat dinner together and prepare for the evening session.

6:00 pm – 6:30 pm Introduction

6:30 pm – 7:30 pm Break Out Sessions

7:30 pm – 8:00 pm Walkabout and see the display tables

Grade 6 students are required to bring items for the refreshment table for both morning and evening sessions. For now everyone is asked to bring in one package of NUT & PEANUT FREE cookies and 2 packages (8 in a package) of juice. Students are asked to start bringing in these items now.  Students will also be asked to bring in fruit/cheese/water/crackers. More information about these items will follow later.

Each group has been asked to create an ‘Items Needed’ list  where they record all items needed for exhibition day, such as full uniform pieces, French component costumes & props, BLS costumes & props, items for art display, items for visual display, etc,

We then discussed the oral component and slideshow. Students are expected to begin work on this on Wednesday and complete the first draft by end of day Thursday. We discussed a checklist that will help students ensure they include all components for the slideshow and the rubric that will be used to evaluate the oral component and slideshow. Everyone agreed to these two documents, and received a hard copy for their reference.

There is a lot of work that needs to be done this week. If students are behind in meeting deadlines, they will be asked to come in on Saturday to get caught up with their work. More information will follow as we determine progress this week.

Students then worked on any outstanding components. Our classroom is beginning to look pretty messy with much work being done on the art components.

The school spelling bee is coming up soon. Students are coming home with their spelling lists to get them started on preparing for the contests. We will have a couple of practice runs to help everyone understand how the competition is run.

After-care payments are due tomorrow for those that attend after-care.

Students who ordered popcorn as part of the spring fundraiser got to enjoy these today. We will hear about the total amount raised at tomorrow’s assembly. Students are reminded to return their bubble soccer permission forms.
