Day 5 – Recording the RSA Animate

Remember to return your reregistration packages to secure your spot for the 2018/2019 school year.

We began our day with our fractions, decimals, ratios, and rates unit. Today we learned that rates are a type of ratio that compares two items that have different units. To help students understand this they found their pulse, and counted the number of beats their hearts make in a minute. They expressed this as a rate – a heart rate – in beats/min. For fun we explored what burpees and relaxing do to our heart rates. Students then worked on their practice problems. Students who did not complete the practice work in class are asked to complete p. 130 – 131 of the MMS 6 practice book for homework. I have now checked all pages of the practice book. Students are asked to correct and/or correct these pages too. Students will be writing a mid-unit test on Friday, February 2nd.

Next we worked on speeches. Today’s goal was to practice reciting the speech to different partners and receive feedback on ways to improve the presentation of the speech. Students need to focus on memorising the speech. We will continue practicing daily with partners and will have a whole-class rehearsal tomorrow morning. Everyone is asked to have the speech memorised by the end of day today.

During today’s inquiry time, students worked their final project for this unit. Today’s goal was to record their RSA Animate. Students used their practice run, 10 step facts, doodles, paper, and markers to complete this task while the cameraperson recorded. Students who completed this portion attempted speeding up their videos 5 times. Devices are needed for the rest of this week as students work on this. Students will work on the narration tomorrow.

Students attended French, music, and gym class today.

Thank you for sending in items for the bake sale. Our class is responsible for hosting the bake sale tomorrow. Please support our fundraising efforts for this event by sending in items to sell at the bake sale. All items must be peanut and nut free.
