Day 10
Grade 6s
began their day attending French class. Mr. Slyk was away today.
In math, we
took up questions 1 & 2 as a class. I spent the rest of the day trying to
check everyone’s remaining homework questions as there were many correct ways
to solve them, and it is important that everyone can do them well (hint, hint).
There are 4 students whose work I did not get to check yet. Students who had
their work marked should check my comments and do corrections if required to.
Today’s new lesson was on using guess and check as a strategy. We used a
checklist of the required criteria to help us do this. Students are asked to
complete practice questions on p. 91 of the MMS textbook if they did not get
done in class. The unit test will be written on Friday, October 28.
We had
debate club during first recess today. The topic was ‘homework’. Needless to
say it was a topic the participants and audience felt very strongly about. We
heard convincing arguments from both the ‘for’ and ‘against’ group. The judges declared
the ‘for’ group the winners, but felt that it was a very narrow win as both
camps made excellent points. The topic and participants for next week’s debate
were decided today.
Students
attended music class with Mr. Andrei after recess and lunch.
It was car
building time right after that. Students continue to make steady progress.
Tomorrow is the last day class time will be allocated to building the car.
After that, first recesses will be used to complete the project when possible.
Many
students presented their slideshows today and we received great teaching on
hydrogen, solar, wind, and wave power. I think that some of my students are
after my job. I’ll have to watch out from now on.
