Exhibition

We began a new math unit yesterday. Students completed a preassessment task to show what they know about perimeter, area, and volume. We worked on the first lesson today, which was about perimeter. Students practiced finding the perimeter of regular and irregular figures. They wrote the perimeter in two different ways, e.g. mm and cm. We discussed the expectations on “showing your work”. Students created perimeter formulae for squares, parallelograms, and regular figures such as hexagons and decagons. Students had some time to work on practice work in class. They are asked to complete practice questions on p. 344-345 of the MMS textbooks for homework. The Grade 6s class has whittled through a class supply of 40 rulers. We only have 9 rulers left. Students are asked to bring a ruler from home.

Grade 6s spent today working on various components of their Exhibition project. Groups ran through their presentations on their own. Most groups conferenced with me about their media component. We used the checklist to ensure the slideshows include all criteria. We also checked spelling and grammar.

Students worked on media components, action components, oral components, and visual art components.  Some groups who have completed all components have chosen to do an additional component.

Some groups met with their mentors today.

The big day is almost here!

We used French class time to do a rehearsal of the French component in the auditorium.

Remember to have your gym uniform at school tomorrow for our squash trip.
