Exhibition: Typing the Essay, Beginning Media Component

We began our day with math.  We took up yesterday’s homework on equivalent ratios. Today’s lesson was on rates. We had previously encountered rates in the Patterns in Number and Geometry unit we did last term. This made it easier for us to get through today’s lesson. Grade 6s again made excellent progress in working on the practice questions in class.  I checked everyone’s questions 1 to 2. Students are asked to complete any incomplete work on MMS p. 330 – 331 for homework. The unit test will be written on Wednesday, April 20.

Next up was Exhibition time. Students who have completed the edit mark-ups on their revised draft have been given the green light to begin typing the essay. Students may do this at home if they wish. They were asked to fairly divide the essay between group members, use the essay edits checklist to check their work, and share their essay portions with each other using Google Docs. I met with more groups today for essay editing conferences. There are just 1 ½ essay edit conferences left to go. These should get done tomorrow.

More than half the class got to go to gym today. They were very happy at that. Groups that are behind used gym class time and recess time to work on their essays.

We discussed the media component of the Exhibition project. The groups have indicated that they would like to do either a Prezi or a Power Point. As a class, we created a list of criteria for the slideshow. Students will be given these requirements as a checklist to guide their work and in the form of a rubric that will be used to evaluate their work.

Groups that accomplished today’s essay goals worked on finding primary sources for their projects, discussing their survey, deciding on their slideshow, and some even began working on their slideshow.

Some groups met with their mentors today.

The class attended French with Mme. Villeneuve.

Students are reminded to work on their digital portfolios. Ms. Ymbang will be available to students to help them with any problems they have had with uploading items next week. She will also be checking that digital portfolios are up-to-date again at this time.

Remember to send in old batteries that you need to safely dispose of. The Grade 1 and 2 classes at SJA will take care of this for you as part of their UOI.

If you forgot the Spring Fundraiser forms and payments today, please send them in tomorrow, as they will still be accepted.

Look out for Scholastic order forms and May hot lunch order forms coming home today.

Please note that squash dates have been changed.
