Viewing the RSA Animates

We began our day working on speeches. Students practiced presenting their speeches on their own and to a friend. Students who have not presented to me yet did this as a priority. I then began cycling through students who presented to me last week. I am hoping to hear everyone’s speech a second time before the end of day tomorrow. Everyone has received feedback at least once on how to improve their presentation. The priority now is to memorise the speech, add expression and gestures, and practice making eye-contact with the audience. Everyone could improve on the projection of their voices. Our in-class competition takes place on Wednesday. Students need to be in full uniform for this. Finalists will present on Friday, from 11 am to 1 pm.

Next we viewed the RSA Animate projects that have been submitted to me. There are a number of groups who have not completed this work. They worked through recess to get caught up. Links must be emailed to me at mhaag@stjudesacademy.com.

Next we worked on our Viking art project. Students used oil pastels to create a sky scene that Viking sailors may have seen as they explored the seas around them.

Grade 6s attended French, music, and math class today. In math, students discussed the review for the unit. Students were able to calculate area and perimeter of different shapes. They are reminded to add only the outer lengths to find the perimeter. The unit test for Perimeter and Area will be written tomorrow.

At the end of the day we visited the Book Fair.

Re-registration packages are due by Monday, February 11.  After this time, spots will be opened up to the public and your child will not be guaranteed a space for next year.  We look forward to seeing you back for next year!

The next Caribou contest will take place on Wednesday February 13th, 2019. Please arrive at 7:15 am for a 7:30 am start. You will have one hour to complete the test. Bring your own device. Ensure your device is full charged.

The next Caribou interactive question will be Sudoku which you students can practice now on the Caribou games page. This time grade 3/4 participants will have to solve a 6x6 Sudoku problem, although with an increased number of digits already inserted. There is no history question in the coming contest.
