Comparing Canada and the United States

We continued exploring Canada’s connections to the world in our inquiry unit. We reviewed the concepts we discussed in class yesterday. Students were challenged to use their knowledge of these concepts in achieving today’s learning goal: Compare and contrast the PEPS features of Canada and the U.S. Students received a chart to help them record information about these features. Students received one hour of class time to complete the chart. They used the links below as sources of information.

What is Canada’s Political System?           The Canada Guide – (Good one for information about Canada’s indigenous peoples)

National Geographic Kids: USA                  USA Facts            USA – Encyclopaedia Britannica

Once everyone had completed this work we took it up as a class. Students had the opportunity to correct and improve their note-taking. They have been assigned a Venn diagram that will be used to compare and contrast the features of these countries. This work is due on Tuesday, February 19th. Devices are needed all next week as students will be working on one of their summative projects.

Students had music, French and math class today. In math, students took up yesterday’s homework. They were then introduced to congruent figures. Students are reminded to list the corresponding vertices of the figures in the same order. Two triangles are congruent if the corresponding sides are equal or 2 sides and included angles are same or when 2 angles and the side between them are same. Students may have to flip or rotate so that both figures appear the same way. Homework - Textbook page 25 Question 6 a-h.

Re-registration packages are past due. Please send these in as soon as possible. We look forward to seeing you back for next year!

Students participated in this year’s Jump Rope 4 Heart event at the dome. It was a good way to end the week.

Have a wonderful long weekend everyone.
