Writing the First Reason Paragraph

I was away at an IB meeting today. Ms. Hayward covered for me while I was away. Students began their day writing their math unit test. This took a large chunk of the morning class time. Once students had completed this they worked on their speeches. Today’s objective was to write the first draft of the first reason paragraph and get feedback from a teacher, a peer, and a parent. Feedback must be recorded in ink directly on the page the paragraph was recorded on. The feedback must suggest ideas and ways that students could improve their argument. We are not editing yet. Students must use the feedback they receive to improve their paragraph resulting in a revised draft. This revised draft is due tomorrow.

There was not enough class time to begin research on the explorers’ summative task. There will time later this week to do this work.  Timelines are due this Thursday.  Students are reminded that they should be reviewing all work in their duo-tangs in preparation for their explorers’ unit test tomorrow.

Grade 6s attended math, music, and French class today.  In math class, students worked on the pre-assessment task for their new math unit  - Perimeter and Area. Students reviewed the perimeter and area of rectangles and squares and worked on practice questions. Students were reminded to write the formula for each problem and give the correct units. The unit of area is square units and perimeter is units was a concept that was reinforced today.

We are away on our skiing trip on Wednesday. Students must dress warmly, including jackets, hats, gloves, snow pants. They should were the appropriate number of layers for the weather on that day. An extra pair of socks and pants is a good idea in case clothing gets wet. Students do NOT need to wear their uniform. Remember to bring a packed lunch or money to purchase lunch at Glen Eden. Extra food/snacks are a good idea as students will be hungrier than usual. The bus will be leaving the school at 7 am and returning at 3:30 pm. Students should arrive between 6:30 – 6:45 am.

Re-registration packages are due by Monday, February 11.  After this time, spots will be opened up to the public and your child will not be guaranteed a space for next year.  We look forward to seeing you back for next year!
