Area of a Parallelogram

Students wrote their explorers unit test during inquiry time.

Once this was done students began working on their speeches. I met with most to discuss their first reason paragraph. Everyone has received revision feedback from me. Revised first reason paragraphs are due on Thursday. Students wrote the first draft of their second reason paragraph. Next they need to get feedback from a teacher, a peer, and a parent. Feedback must be recorded in ink directly on the page the paragraph was recorded on. The feedback must suggest ideas and ways that students could improve their argument. We are not editing yet. Students must use the feedback they receive to improve their paragraph resulting in a revised draft. This revised draft is due on Thursday.

Grade 6s attended math, gym, and French class today.  In math class, student were introduced to the area of parallelograms. They are encouraged to write the formula each time they solve a question. Students need practice on identifying the base and height of a parallelogram and had to be reminded that height is perpendicular to the base. They practiced questions from the textbook. They have been assigned worksheet page 123 Q 1, 2 & 3 as homework. The previous unit test was sent home today. This needs to be reviewed and signed by parents. Ms. Joseph apologises for the delay as she was waiting on a student who had not yet written the test.

We are away on our skiing trip tomorrow. We had a meeting today to discuss what this day will be like and the fact that student safety is our top priority. Ask your child to tell you what we discussed. Students must dress warmly, including jackets, hats, gloves, snow pants. They should were the appropriate number of layers for the weather on that day. A change of clothes is a good idea in case clothing gets wet. Students do NOT need to wear their uniform. Remember to bring a packed lunch or money to purchase lunch at Glen Eden. Extra food/snacks are a good idea as students will be hungrier than usual. The bus will be leaving the school at 7 am and returning at 3:30 pm. Students should arrive between 6:30 – 6:45 am. If buses are canceled due to weather, school will be open as usual. Students should bring their school bags if this is the case.

We will be vising the Grade 1 markets on Thursday. Items are $1. Grade 6s are encouraged to bring money to spend at the markets and support the Grade 1 friends. All profits will be donated to Sick Kids Hospital.

Re-registration packages are due by Monday, February 11.  After this time, spots will be opened up to the public and your child will not be guaranteed a space for next year.  We look forward to seeing you back for next year!
