Spanish & English Explorers

We continued learning about the Age of Exploration during inquiry time. We first reviewed all the learning that has taken place over the last few days. Students then heard how Christopher Columbus was an Italian sailor who sailed for Spain. They also learned how the English followed in the search for a short cut to Asia with another Italian sailor, Giovanni Caboto (John Cabot). Students should add today’s Spanish and English explorers to their timeline. They should be reviewing all work in their duo-tangs in preparation for their unit test on Tuesday, January 22nd.

Students used speech time to do research and find supporting evidence for each of their reasons. Students recorded their reasons in their ‘Persuasive Essay Organiser’. We will continue this work tomorrow. This organiser must be completed when students come to school on Monday, January 21st.

Grade 6s attended math and French class today. In math they discussed yesterday’s homework. Students can do addition and subtraction of fractions with like and unlike denominators. They reviewed division of decimals. Students are encouraged to divide as whole numbers and then estimate to place the decimal point in the answer. The majority of students can do higher order questions on order of operations. Extended questions were given on order of operations. Homework - Questions 16-20 from the worksheet. The unit test takes place on Monday, January 21st.

An MYP/DP information session for Grade 6 families takes today from 6 – 7 pm in the upper school lounge area (where specialist conferences took place).
