Area of Trapezoids

Students began their day with an extra math period with Ms. Joseph. For homework they should complete questions 1a, 2a, 2c, 3, 4a, 4c on p. 225 of the MMS 7 textbook. Students need to complete questions 1b, 3, 4b, 5a, and 5b from the worksheet. Because of the snow day, the unit test for Perimeter and Area is postponed to Tuesday, February 5th.

Next we worked on speeches. I checked all work that was completed for today, editing all paragraphs that were submitted to me. Students then read their paragraphs in order to be sure it made sense and was convincing. Students also checked that it fell in the 3-5 minute time constraint. Their findings indicated if they needed to remove or add information to their speech to ensure it was not less than 3 minutes or longer than 5 minutes. If all these criteria were met, students began writing a good copy of their speech by hand. These are due tomorrow. They now need a title for their speech. They should use indents to show the paragraphs in their good copy. This is due tomorrow and it is the copy I will be marking. Some students who completed this step received cue cards from me. The speech will be copied onto cue cards. The cue cards will be used to help students memorise the speech. Students who are behind in their speech work need to work on getting caught up.

Next we worked on our Explorers RSA Animate project. Students practiced their RSA Animate using chart papers and markers. Students who were happy with their rehearsals began shooting their video. For the next step, students need a video editor that will allow them to speed up the video as well as remove the original sound track and narrate a new one using the sped-up version of the video. We have a couple of suggestions of video editing software: Lightworks, an app for Andorid devices called Kinemaster, and an app for iMovie called SpeedPro. Here is an example of a professional RSA Animate and Grade 6 student’s work.

Students also need a YouTube account to share their RSA Animate with me.

Grade 6s attended French math class today.

Re-registration packages are due by Monday, February 11.  After this time, spots will be opened up to the public and your child will not be guaranteed a space for next year.  We look forward to seeing you back for next year!

Tomorrow is Casual Day. There is also bake sale taking place tomorrow.
