The Third Paragraph

Students began their day with math class - which was a change. Ms. Joseph will be invigilating an exam tomorrow during our math time. This was done to make up for tomorrow’s math class. Students then had math again during their regular math time. Ms. Joseph discussed the test on fractions and decimals. Students have understood the operations involving fractions and decimals but need more practice with division of decimals especially fixing the decimal point. Students are reminded to divide as whole numbers and then estimate to place the decimal point. Parents, please review the test, sign it and return it.  They also practiced solving word problems on area of parallelograms. They were introduced to the area of a triangle. For homework Question 1. a) –d) has been assigned on page 222 Questions as well as the worksheet on parallelograms.

Next, students continued working on their speeches. I met with most to check that their first reason paragraph has been revised and discussed their second reason paragraph. Students have received feedback on how to improve their second paragraph. Revised second reason paragraphs are due tomorrow. Students wrote the first draft of their third reason paragraph. Next they need to get feedback from a teacher, a peer, and a parent. Feedback must be recorded in ink directly on the page the paragraph was recorded on. The feedback must suggest ideas and ways that students could improve their argument. We are not editing yet. Students must use the feedback they receive to improve their paragraph resulting in a revised draft. This revised draft is due on Friday.

At the end of the day students worked on their explorer research. The goal was to complete about 1/3 of the organiser. Incomplete work needs to be completed for homework.

Grade 6s attended French class today.

Re-registration packages are due by Monday, February 11.  After this time, spots will be opened up to the public and your child will not be guaranteed a space for next year.  We look forward to seeing you back for next year!
