Exhbition: The Essay Organizer

Day 10

We continued working on our Fractions, Percents, Ratios, and Rates math unit. Students wrote a quiz to show their understanding of concepts we have covered so far in this unit. We took up Friday’s homework and then did a lesson on percents. Students wrote numbers out of a hundred in a few ways: on a hundredths grid, as a fraction, as a decimal, and as a percent. Students are asked to complete practice questions on p. 310 – 311 of the MMS textbook.

The rest of class time was spent working on exhibition. First, Mr. Oliver came to our room for our regularly scheduled music time. The Grade 6s worked with him to brainstorm ideas for the creative component of their exhibition project. They then had a discussion on the feasibility of the different ideas with the topics students are working on. Students have recorded their ideas to work on later.

Students then received the essay package that describes the expectations, criteria, and rubrics for the essay. It includes steps that direct students on how to successfully complete this task. It took us a long time to get through this package and address student questions about the essay expectations.

Students ended their exhibition class time by working on the essay organizer. It was expected that all students complete the organizer by end of class time today. Students are to show the organizer to a parent and mentor to receive feedback on ways to improve the organizer. Editors are asked to write directly on the organizers in ink.

Grade 6s attended French class today.
